On Feb 19, 1846 president Anson Jones gave his farewell address and Texas celebrated its new statehood in the United States.

Texas was a frontier state.
Life along the frontier had always been challenging and dangerous, and it remained so. However, Texas experienced rapid changes in the years following annexation as towns and industry grew.
