Major leaders of Asylum/prison reform

Dorothea Dix was one of many reformers but one of the most famous for reforming prisons and asylums. She became a reformer because she saw that the mentally ill we're held in the jails. She was able to get laws passed to improve living conditions in the jails in many states and also to open up hospitals to house the mentally ill.
