During this time majority of Texans rode on horseback or were pulled on a wagon by horse, mule, or oxen. Texans who raised cattle rode horse while the worked.they did see an improvement in transportation.
Rafts were how most people would cross small bodies of water. The Rio Grande, where Richard king and Mifflin Kennedy established regular shipping during the War with Mexico until the built King Ranch. In eastern Texas there bigger rivers, small boats would travel perhaps 100 miles upriver in the spring.
Stagecoaches were used by many towns. They carried passengers, freight and mail.
