Artist: Caravaggio (Michelangelo Merisi)

Date: 1595

Medium: oil on canvas

Title: The Musicians

Providence: currently in Metropolitan Museum of Art

Source: http://www.metmuseum.org/collection/the-collection-online/search/470304

Describe:

In this piece we can see four overlapping people. One is playing an instrument while another appears to be reading off of a journal.

Analyze:

In this painting we can see a pop of color in the red sash draped over the mans shoulder.  Also there is a splash of black in the  background which makes the sash stand out more.

Interpret: I believe that this piece is portraying musicians getting ready to perform or writing some kind of song, or psalm.

Judge: I like this painting because it is very casual and very cleanly cut.
