Artist: Workshop of Robert Campin

Date: 1427-32

Medium: oil on oak

Title: Annunciation Triptych (Merode Altarpiece)

Providence: currently in Metropolitan Museum of Art

Source: http://www.metmuseum.org/collection/the-collection-online/search/470304

Describe:

You see groups of people in each room. A priest and nun praying outside of the door in the first room. And angel and a woman in the second room. And a servant in the third room.

Analyze:

The priest and nun in the first room are kneeling down and praying out side of the room that the angle is in. You can see both warm and cool colors in the piece which makes a lot of contrast. You can see it in the nun and the priest, the angel and the woman, and the servants cloak and his hat.

Interpret:

I believe that this painting interprets the annunciation of a prophecy of Jesus. You can decipher this because of the angel and the prayer clergy members.

Judge: I like this painting because of the good use of contrast.
