Pros and Cons

Awareness projects: This potential solution is one that is fairly cheap and could show people what is really going on. There are not many negatives to this plan besides the fact that some will simply ignore what is said.

Promotion of use of better security systems: Better security systems can lead to safer homes and stores, but the price can get high for citizens attempting to upgrade their systems.

Promote safety and security tactics: By letting people know of dangers, people can understand what is being done and how they can protect themselves. This is by similar to awareness projects. But this could be as simple as locking your door or keeping outdoor lights on. It's simple and easy to fund. The negative again is that people would simply ignore what is being said.

Increase of police and street lighting around town: Increasing police presence and lighting around town could limit crimes and create a safer town. Is is likely the most efficient way to lower crimes even further, but it's also the most expensive to fund. While increasing police and lighting can be the best way to lower crimes, the cost is probably too great to overcome. Paying for extra policemen can get pricey and some street lights can reach over 2 thousand dollars per fixture.

Economic revival: This "solution" would be a hard to accomplish on a local scale, but would likely be very effective. Studies have show that people who commit crimes are mostly on the lower end of the economy and if there's revival and equality, there would be less crime. The only problem is that with the U.S government, this would basically be impossible to accomplish on the scale needed.
