Paragraph 1
The American dream may be lost in the past. An individual’s dream may be a little too late to achieve. “Gatsby’s wonder when he picked out the green light at the end of Daisy’s dock…his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it. He did not know that it was already behind him.” (Fitzgerald, 128). Gatsby is desperately trying to hold on to his dream, Daisy. He once had her, but he believes his dream is back once again. The dream of Daisy will never be achieved again for Gatsby; she is just a memory of the part that doesn’t belong in the present or future for Gatsby. The song “Say Something” by, A Great Big World repeats the lyric “Say something, I’m getting over you.” The individual is singing about someone dear to them that they have lost. By the tone of the song and the lyrics it is clear the artist had a dream of being with the person the song is about, but their dream is slipping away. Some chasing their dream it is already too late, their goal is already lost.
