Social structure

The Zhou Dynasty was important to China because it brought the Iron Age with it. Agriculture was what most of the economy was made up of. With all this farming, they needed thousands of workers, which was beneficial for the civilization since they had so many. Peasants made up all the farmers and agricultural workers. Landlords paid the taxes to the king, and were provided with warriors to protect the land they own. The top of the social ladder was obviously the king who controlled the government and gave the land to the lords. Craftsmen and merchants worked in exchange for food. The oldest man in the family was considered the leader of the home. Children were forced to always obey and never argue, if not to obey they would be severely punished.
