Other Interesting Facts
environment.nationalgeographic.com
Besides abiotic and biotic factors, there are other interesting facts that make the tropical rainforest unique and special. For example, it is only located near the equator. They only cover about 6% of the world! But still they contain about 3/4 of all of the known plants and animals. Another fact is that the rainforest contains 4 layers(highest to lowest): Emergent Layer, Canopy, Understory, Forest Floor. The forest floor is the darkest part, receiving very little sunlight. The understory also earns little sunlight, but insects are plentiful. The canopy contains most of the animals since food is abundant. The emergent layer is the highest layer, having the most sunlight. A final fun fact is that the Amazon Rainforest, located in South America, alone produces at least 20% of the world's oxygen. This information really does characterize the rainforest.
