Bolivar Square is the most visited tourist spot in the Colombian capital. It is considered to be the most beautiful square not only in Colombia but throughout South America. Nowadays, Bolivar Square has lost part of its charm - in the past it was surrounded entirely by colonial buildings that today are mixed with modern buildings. There is a local belief that the square reflects life in the capital city: a place full of traditions, which jealously keeps the memories of the past, but still managed to be part of the modern world. During the Christmas season an enormous over-decorated plastic tree stands on it. Although it looks strange, all the Colombians in Bogota and guests enjoy it and accept it as typical Christmas decoration.
