The Nitrogen cycle is very important to our ecosystem. Bacteria in the soil allow the plants to take in the nitrogen as nitrogen compounds. Nitrogen is important to living things because plants turn it into proteins and then turn the proteins into organs which produce oxygen for living animals.

Decomposition is also very important because it breaks down dead material and returns all the protiens and nutrients to the soil and the plants that are there. Decomposition is also very important in places with lots of trees so the nutrients return to the trees. When bacteria decompose dead material and waste nitrogen is released into the air. This is also a big part of the nitrogen cycle. It breaks down dead material and releases nitrogen into the air.
