Radiation

Radiation occurs when the lines move outward from a central point; like the rays of the sun. In this picture of a staircase, the curved railing and carpet over the staircase moves from the central point of the terrace at the top of the staircase. Radiation creates roundness and radial rhythm to this room. The eye is first drawn to the terrace and then radiates outward down the stairs.

Repetition

Repetition is a general way of creating rhythm. In this picture, the frames with photos in them are being repeated. It conveys a vintage theme to the room and draws the eye directly to them. Even though each frame is a little different, all together, they make a cohesive and rhythmic whole. The eye then leads from one frame to the other and then down the to drawers and decorations on the drawer.
