Texas towns definetly grew a lot in the 1850s through the 1860s. Most texans lived on farms and ranches, but slowly began living in towns. In 1850, there were less than 13,000 people in Texas towns. By 1860, the population grew to over 26,000. At the beginning of Texas' statehood, Galveston was the most populated town in Texas. In 1860, it became San Antonio. No matter how much the towns grew, they still were towns, not cities.
