Utilitarianism's Solution
Abortion: does it cause more pain or pleasure?
Mill says that every sentient being should be applied to the Greatest Happiness Principle, and we should all harmonize with the ends of others.
At first, it seems like Mill would say abortion is wrong.
However...
Before fetuses mostly in the first trimester of pregnancy do not have the ability to feel pain or pleasure; therefore, they don't apply to the GHP.
Having an early abortion could definitely mitigate pain for the mother and the child. The mother wouldn't be forced to go through with the unwanted pregnancy, and the child wouldn't be born into a situation that is unsafe.
