He was sentenced to 10 years in Brandenburg penitentiary for the crime as he was labeled the "ring leader" of the group.

On May 31, 1923, Höss and members of the Freikorps beat local school teacher Walther Kadow to death on the wishes of the local farm supervisor Martin Borman.
