Winter

Winter is the coldest of the four temperate seasons, although the Earth is closer to the sun during this time of year. This is because the Earth is tilted away from the sun and is receiving less direct solar rays. During winter the nights become longer while the days become shorter. In many areas winter is associated with snow and ice because of these less solar energy-powered rays.
