Social Frame of 1960s South

-Before the 1960s African Americans were seen as inferior
-During the time of the civil rights movement
Racism changed dramatically
-Organizations such as the National Association of Colored Women (NACW), the National League on Urban Conditions Among Negros (NLUCAN), and the American Branch of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) grew to form "the foundation and framework for social welfare service delivery in the African American community"
-The Voting Rights act was passed (1965)
-Southern states fought to deprive racial minorities during and after Reconstruction
