After seven straight months of work, John Wayne took an entire year off, from December of 1974 to January of 1976. It was during this time that The John Wayne Tennis Club was founded by John Wayne and Ken Willig. When it opened in 1974, the club was one of the premier tennis clubs in Orange County. The John Wayne Tennis Club would go on to hold numerous tennis tournaments. It is remembered as loving a young to middle age scene. Joining the club allowed access to exclusive amenities while also providing a way for its members to meet people and make tennis matches. Membership amenities included use of the club’s16 tennis courts, as well as access to the pro shop and private lounge.
