Genomic Libraries
A genomic library is a complete set of plasmid-containing bacterial cell clones. Each clone carries a copy of a particular segment from the initial genome.
~ Each plasmid cone contains specific information.
~ It stores cloned genes so that whenever scientists are ready to use that specific gene they can go to the library and get it. This saves them from having to repeatedly make copies every time they get ready to use the gene.
~ In 1977, Frederick Sanger and a group of scientist were the first to create a library of bacteriophage for sequencing. Phi X 174 was their bacteriophage of choice.
This is a genomic library used for testing a drug. The clear container doesn't have the drug and the gray container does.
