Description- Monet used a variety of colors going from warm to cool colors. There is a building or city in the left corner. Because of the warm colors representing the sun there is a shadow on the water. There are some undefined figures on the right parallel to the buildings in the red.

Analysis- In the piece San Giorgio maggiore at dusk I found many elements of art and principals of design; they included: shape, color, value, movement, and contrast. I found shape in the building to the left because its the only defined figure in the piece. In the sunset and on the water I found color which is evident through out the entire piece. value was there in the blending of the colors to show movement. I saw movement in the ripples on the left in the water showing that the water is moving. Finally I found contrast throughout the whole piece. But where it was the most evident was between the colors in the sky and the plain color of the building.
Interpretation- The message i got from the painting was solitude, one person/thing seperated from something of importance to Monet. i say this because the building is alone and secluded from other things.
Judgement- personally i thought the painting was a little empty but Monet made up for that in my opinion with his superb blending of the colors. I liked the fact you could see the ripples in the water through the waters blended colors.
