Description- this painting is mostly white because there is snow on the ground and on the trees. I know this is snow because of the use of dimension to show texture. There is a person sitting on what looks like a bridge or an arch of some sort. In the background there is a tan house surrounded by trees.
Artist: Claude Monet
Title: the magpie (La Pie)
Date: between 1868 and 1869
Medium: oil on canvas
Provenance: unknown

Analysis- after looking at the painting for a couple minutes I discovered the use of line, value, texture, balence, and contrast. I found line in the arch way where the pole connect horizontally to the parallel arches on both sides. Value was used in the snow to show the sun coming from behind the trees because of the shadow of the tree. I saw texture in the snow to show that more places have more snow than others. There was a contrast in color between the house and the snow showing depth and balence throughout the piece
Interpretation- I personally think the art work is trying to convey a person longing to belong to something. He/she is looking at the house, shown by the position of the persons head, wondering about what he/she might have or wants to have. The shadow on the snow kinda makes me feel like the boy/girl is happy before he got to the arch way, but when he got there his mode got more sad or disappointed in something.
Judgment- When I look at the piece I mainly focus on the archway in front of the house because it takes more room and moves your eyes to the rest of the painting. I think the artist was successful in communicating his story and the point of making the painting. The piece caught my eye and is riddled with elements and principals of design that help make the painting more beautiful then in already was showing.
