Rural life in Texas
Between 1846 and 1860 Texas was mostly farm country because land was good and cheap. A big part a Texas' farming industry grew food crops such as corn. However, this made them of less demand so farmers couldn't sell them for as much. Cotton was the best "cash crop" and it sold for high amounts as did livestock.
