Lords
-When a vassal gain land from a king he became The Lord of his land.
-Maintain control over land. Give their support to the king at all times. Provide troops and fight for the king when the need arose. They also had to pay taxes whenever the king called for them.

Vassals
-like lesser Lords
-pledged loyalty and service to greater lord. Provided his lord with 40 days of military service, money, and advice.
-Each vassal was assigned one fief.

Nobles

Lords and vassals made up less than 5% of the population.

Lords pledged loyalty to a king. Vassals pledged loyalty to their greater lords. In many cases, the same man was both lord and vassal-vassal to a more powerful lord above him and lord to a less powerful vassal bellow him.
