Blue-Eyed Darner Life Cycle

Mates in midair, like most Odonata

Female lays eggs in warm, slow moving or still water

Eggs hatch directly into nymphs, without larval stage

Wingless nymphs live in water for 2+ years

Nymph crawls out of water, back skin splits open, winged adult begins to emerge

Sun hardens wings and it is ready to fly

Adult will only survive a couple months

Incomplete metamorphosis, not 4 stages
