Name is taken from the Greek word "odonto-" which means tooth

Refers to strong teeth found on adult mandibles

Odonata: toothed ones

They are carnivorous insects.

There are two suborders, Zygoptera (damselflies) and Anisoptera (dragon flies)

Predator in all stages of life for both suborders
