Major Families (dragonflies)

Aeshnidae (Darners) -- large insects, bright blue or green coloration. Includes the common green darner

Libellulidae (Common Skimmers) -- largest family in the order, contains species with dark spots on the wings.

Gomphidae (Clubtails) -- these have the abdominal segments swollen, which is the cause of the name "club tale"
