Some rivers are formed when the ice caps melt on a mountain, and run down the side. Other rivers are formed when groundwater and springs flow and erode a path that is constantly using water.

First if all, rivers can be dammed up for us to create hydroelectric plants. Second, humans can get food in rivers by fishing and even water to drink.
