-Medium: Oil Paint
-Provenance: Currently in The Galleria Borghese

-Describe: Nine people are surrounding or carrying a man who looks to be unwell. Hills in the distance. Vibrant and muted colors both used throughout the piece. Some trees and clouds bordering the painting. Three cross shaped figures in the upper right hand corner.
-Analyze: Triangle shape made by the crosses in the upper right hand corner which connects to the men on the lower left and lower right. Curved lines formed by the hills in the background of the image. Vivid color adds to the chaos in the painting. Not much contrast of texture, everything seems to look quite smooth. A little negative space between the clouds in the sky. Contrasting light and value throughout painting; darks and lights in the crowd, medium shades used in the background and sky.

the man holding the legs of the man being carried. Movement throughout the crowd holding the man which goes left and right depending on the way each person holding the man is pulling.
-Interpret: The triangle shaped form amongst either side of the group of men and the cross creates an illusion that they are carrying something more then the man away from the cross. The contrasting values of dark and light within the group of people represents the good and evil of the scene; perhaps some have bad intentions or are feeling an aching sorrow or depression. The symmetrical balances portrays a sense of entirety; it is clear the distressing situation engulfs each person in the painting. Another triangle is formed by the two heads of the men holding the man and their feet; this shows movement in opposite directions, as if they are fighting over the man, or as if they are trying to decide what direction to go in. There is emphasis on the man in the middle because he is clearly the subject of the piece and the most significant aspect.
-Judgement: I do feel drawn in by this piece because of the bright colors, varying emotion, chaotic foreground, and peaceful background. I believe this painting has achieved a balanced chaos and I love that. It is visually interesting piece and clearly communicates a story, point, and mood which is attractive to me.
