Eli Thayer
Henry Ward Beecher
John Brown
Influential Northerners
Eli Thayer was an antislavery abolitionist from Massachusetts. Upon hearing the votes in Kansas he organized the New England Emigrant Aid Company who's goal was to help northerners make it to Kansas. He single handedly helped hundreds get to Kansas he was influential enough Thayer Kansas was named after him.
Henry Ward Beecher as mentioned was a strong abolitionist minister who got Sharps rifles smuggled to anybody willing to take up the fight for antislavery. He shipped them in crates marked "Bible" no one in that time would question the Good Lord so his scheme worked. His contribution seems small but many couldn't afford to arm themselves so his contribution is massive.
John Brown was at first not interested in either side but upon seeing the open violence he decided to join the antislavery resistance. He was able to get a band of men together and raid a proslavery institution near Osawatomi. He led many other raids until his raid at Harpers Ferry that was unsuccessful that led to his capture and eventually death by hanging.
