The Idea of Inventing
Oskar has a wild imagination. He comes up with outrageous inventions that try to solve problems that people going through the same stuff as him can have it a little easier. Some of his crazy inventions like an extra long limousine, an elevator that doesn't move, and a teakettle that can talk like his dad. I think these inventions show Oskar trying to shield his emotions and fix everything he can because he will never be able to fix the past and what happened to his dad. Also these problems also show his feelings for his fathers death. He wants to make the elevator so that this tragedy can never happen again. Then we get a glimpse of how he is feeling about his dad and how all he wants is to hear his voice again. All of these inventions solve things about 9/11 and the effects it had on Oskar.
