Revival of Slavery

In 1808, the importation of slaves had stopped but slavery itself was growing again in America. This was furthered because the cotton gin was invented in 1800.

In 1787, slavery was dying out. The founders agreed to stop the importation of slaves as part of a compromise to ratify the Constitution.

In the north, many textile mills sprang up. The material to make these textiles came from the cotton produced in the south.
