Establish justice

Court system:

-Amendment 5 and 6 state the trial must be just and everyone can have have a jury and equal trial

-during this time juries were mostly racist whites in the south

-example: state vs harden case:

-white surpremesy ruled the jury and voted against harden

-judge saw African Americans inferior to whites

North west ordinance- "Slavery and involuntary servitude were forbidden in the Northwest Territory" 

-protects the liberty and rights of African Americans in north 

-creates a balanced government of antislavery and pro slavery government officials.
