1. XYZ Affair

America wanted to negotiate problems that were threatening to lead to war, but France wanted bribes before they would even start negotiating which offended Americans.

2. Alien and Sedition Acts

Four bills signed into laws by John Adams. These laws were very controversial, giving the president too much power and restricting speech.

3. Jay's Treaty

A treaty between America and Great Britain, which resolved many issues between the two ciuntries and stopped a potential war.
