Toning

-prelighten hair to desired shade

-rinse hair/towel dry

-apply gloves

-mix desired toner

-apply protective cream to hairline

-part hair in quadrants using tail comb

-take strand test at crown of a back section

-start at nape and work forward

-apply toner to 1/4" subsections

(from scalp to midlengths, avoiding ends if porous)

-cover all sections

-gently work toner through ends

-check hair frequently until desired color has been achieved

-wet hair and massage into a lather

-rinse with warm water and apply pH balancing conditioner

toners are used primarily to achieve pale, pastel shades


they require a double process application

(first being the enlightener, second being the toner)


ex:

20g universal ON + 20g 9N + 4g light V/B + 40ml CTA
