Clara Barton's Family...

Clara's father, Captain Stephen Barton, was a veteran of the Indian Wars and owned a farm. Her mother, Sarah, was a believer of women's rights and she taught Clara that all people should be treated equally. Clara was the youngest of 5 children. She had 2 older sisters, Sally and Dorothea, 2 older brothers, David and Stephen. They taught Clara how to read and write so then Clara did well at school. At the age of 11, David fell off a roof of a barn and Clara spent the next 2 years looking after him. She soon realised how she enjoyed looking after people.
