As mill operations began to decline in the late 1970s, The Patch was established by Esther Peachy LeFever to help the former mill workers learn new trades and weather the transition. It also provided a place for the community to gather, enjoy music, art, and each other’s company.

The CSX-Cabbagetown Wall Mural Project (see next page for more detail) was just one example of The Patch working to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood.

The spirit of that initiative still exists today in the form of the the Esther Peachy LeFever Fund. You can donate to the fund by sending a check to the Cabbagetown Initiative located at 177 Estoria Street SE, Atlanta, Georgia 30316 or make a donation* at

*Please notate the donation should be applied to the “EP Fund” when donating by either method.
