Character Analysis

Othello- Of course, Othello was greatly affected by this dichotomy. Othello is constantly being carried away by his emotions, or his passionate character. When he first heard about the possible affair, Othello jumped at his initial thoughts, without any hard evidence at all and a newly found hatred towards Desdemona. Just moments before, Othello was as happy as can be with his situation with Desdemona, but changes drastically. His passionate emotions ultimately leads to his own downfall when he reacts by plotting against Cassio and Desdemona and finally killing Desdemona.

Iago- Iago also gets carried away with his emotions but also shows a certain level of reason. His plots and conspiracies against Othello, Desdemona, Mercutio, and Cassio required a lot of careful and attentive planning. Everything had to be just right and his targets had to react and play along just as he wanted. However, his hate towards Othello and his resentment towards Cassio after he took his place led him to committing horrible crimes and caused a lot of death.
