Democritus was a Greek philosopher, He was born in Abdera, Thrace around 460 BC. He is famously known for his formulation of an atomic theory of the universe. He has stated that:

1. Everything is made of tiny bits called atoms

2. These atoms are indestructible

3. Different shapes of atoms give them different properties. He guessed that things that tasted sweet were made of round atoma, while things that tasted bitter were made of sharp atoma.

4. Changes we see are caused by the movement of the very tiny atom

He had no hard evidence towards these theories, In fact he thought of these ideas simply just by thinking about them. Although Democritus didn’t do this on his own. He had been taught by Leucippus, who gave him inspiration and helped him form his theories.
