Development of Slavery in South America
Slavery developed through trading in America, as well as in South America. The Africans became indentured servants, as they were being traded, and sold to the people who lived in South America. A Dutch slave trader exchanged his cargo of Africans for food in 1619, which then became more and more popular to practice. In world history these two western regions were the first areas of the Americas to be populated by African immigrants. Through the 15th and 16th centuries, slavery then moved up the coast of South America through the Caribbean
