In my opinion I think that the popular believe that "slavery is a necessary evil," basically meant evil people which were the white owners needed slaves in order to prosper. Most of the families in the South needed slaves to do their every day jobs. In order to make their money they needed slaves to work on their crops, so they could sell them. This is mainly what I think about the popular believes that "slavery is a necessary evil."
