The Politics of Ghana and Mali
Politics
-All started with a king, he was the center of all political and economical, as well as civil decisions.
-His word stood as the law
-He served as the Commander in Chief, controlled all trade, and main administer of justice
-He appointed smaller leaders to govern in a way, but the king had complete power
-Every day, the king allowed all people to speak out and voice their complaints to the king
-The king always listened and gave his judgement
-Most of the civil meetings, where criminals would be tried, were peaceful except for serious crimes: including failure to pay debt and killing or shedding of blood.
-Justice would be served by giving the accused a foul drink. If the accused vomited the drink up, then he was considered not guilty, but if the drink stayed down, then he or she was guilty
-Ghanaian governors were assigned as watchdogs for areas of the empire that could not be regularly monitored.
