-As Ghana began declining a new empire arose called Mali.


-The empire of Mali also relied almost completely on gold to support their economy.


-The king of Mali conquered Ghana and rebuilt the gold and salt trade route that fell during the time that Ghana did.


-The king of Mali also taxed traders passing through his region.


-Along with gold and salt the trading of agriculture products brought a large amount of wealth to the empire.
