Ponyboy

Quotes: "Nothing gold can stay." // It's okay...We aren't in the same class. Just don't forget that some of us watch the sunset too. // "I'm different that way...nobody in the gang digs movies and books the way I do. For a while there, I thought I was the only person in the world that did."// "Johnny was dead. But he wasn't. That still body back I'm the hospital wasn't Johnny. Johnny was somewhere else---maybe asleep in the lot, or paying the pinball machine in the bowling alley, or sitting on the back steps of the church."//"He isn't dead, I said to myself. He isn't dead" and this time my DREAMING worked. I conviced myself that he wasn't dead."

Song: Vincent by Don McLean

Now I understand

What you tried to say to me

And how you suffered for your sanity

And how you tried to set them free

The song Vincent describes Ponyboy well. It speaks of a misunderstood person who dreams a lot, but gets often hurt because of it. You see, Ponyboy has trouble facing reality for the most of it. The lyric "And now I understand what you tried to say to me." Is trying to help you understand that at first the thoughts in your head were trying to convince you to aside everything the others were saying because they don't want to believe in something that hurts them which is what Ponyboy does after Johnny's death. He convinces himself to believe that what could destroy him does not exist. In other words he tends to stay "fine" no matter what.
