Who is Jessica to me?
You may be wondering why I am droning on about a random teacher whom you have never even spoken with. Well, to me she is probably one of the most influential teachers I have ever had. Before I had her as a teacher I wanted to be president, because I thought it would be an easy job. I had her for a semester and kind of just flew under the radar, then second semester something changed. She had been my favorite teacher pretty much all year long, but somehow I broke out of my shell. I don't really remember when it happened it just sort of did. I began to speak up and joke with her, I soon found myself getting closer to a teacher. I wrote her an appreciation letter, and delivered it in a speech along with a box. Inside the box was, two candy bars, some pens, and a necklace. What I liked about her was the way she taught, she didn't teach because it was what she had to do, she taught because she wanted to. She taught because it was something she loved, something she had a passion for. Somehow, she had managed to make lessons more interactive and understandable. It was then that I decided that I didn't want to be president, instead I wanted to teach. Not just teach but leave an impression on those I taught, the way she had. She once said “it's not my job to make students like me, it's my job to teach them and make sure that they learn.” Jessica really took time to get to know us, yes she had favorites, all teachers have at least one, whether or not they want to admit it. I would like to think I'm one of her favorites but to be honest I don't really know, all I know is she is one of my favorite teachers. Generally, I tend not to get close to people because I know that after high school we might never talk again, this goes for teachers especially. However that is slowly changing, I'm beginning to realize that it doesn't matter. I should surround myself with good people, whether that be teachers or new students. Teachers, after all come in handy when you need recommendations for a job or class and when you need some words of encouragement. I know she most definitely provided me I with both when I needed them. Early Modern Mac is the type of person who doesn't let you know how she feels. In a way she reminds me of my best friend Michaela, at least in that aspect. On occasion however she does let on to how she feels, when I read her my letter she did tear up a bit and she stood up and hugged me. I will admit it was a little weird at first because I don't generally hug many people. On another rare occasion I was freaking out about my sophomore year, she hugged me and said “aww, babygirl, it's going to be okay.” In a way, she acts like my mother because she says it's her job to keep me in line. She is like a role model, teacher, friend, and mother all rolled into one, and as she put it “like a tootsie roll!”
