The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a US law that reforms both the healthcare and health insurance industries in America. The law improves the quality, availability, and affordability of private and public health insurance.
This 1000+ page piece of legislature has provisions that include new regulations, taxes, mandates, and subsidies.
The Affordable Care Act is often referred to as “Obamacare” because it was promoted by President Barack Obama. The term originally had a negative connotation. It was used to rally opponents of the President to oppose the law. Since then, the term has been embraced by the President and supporters of health care reform.
