This song represents the theme of isolation, specifically faced by John, that is present throughout the book. Not only did he face isolation on the reservation, but he was also cast out of the New World society due to the fact that he had parents and he had very different ideals. Since he lived on the reservation, he had access to books and became well versed in Shakespeare and other works that are popular and taught about today. Because of this, it is like he is "trapped in another dimension."
