With money from raising sheep, Marcellin went to a Minor Seminary Verrieres-en-Forez. He joined in October, 1805. Older than many of his classmates, he failed his first test and was told to go home. Marcellin was readmitted through good words from his priest, mother, and the superior of the seminary. In 1807, Marcellin left Verrieres for a Major Seminary near Lyons. Through hard work and dedication, Marcellin was ordained on July 22, 1816.
