The ride to the harbor was fairly short.
“Your ticket will help you gain access to the the ferry. Once the ride is over, the tour guide will take everyone on a bus over to Chinatown,” said the guard as he opened the door for me.
I couldn’t help but give him a big hug. He smiled and took me to the entrance of the ferry. The guard and the tour guide exchanged words for a few moments and then he nodded at me.
“Looks like I’m gonna be taking you to ChinaTown lil’ lady?”
I nodded.
“Well in the mean time, we’re gonna visit miss lady liberty and then take you there.”
I was so happy. I finally had a sure feeling that I could find my parents. I sat by the end of ferry by myself, trying to figure out what my parents reaction would be like if they were with me. The statue was coming up, and all I could see was pure beauty.
The tour guide was explaining how all the elements of the statue connected to Aristotles “Good Sense.” Her visual representation invoked ideas centered around “good sense, good moral character, and goodwill (Aristotle, 213). Her stance is poised and upright, almost as if she was taking her next step. She looks as if she was willing and ready to guide all those over the world. She clutches a tablet of law in her left hand that signifies a book of liberty. In the other hand, she is raising a torch, which symbolizes enlightenment and how the world can see the light of freedom and how she is sharing it. I could admire her beauty all day, but before I knew it, the tour was over and the tour guide was tapping me out of my fantasy to tell me that the bus was ready to depart to ChinaTown.
