Grows up and spends childhood in Massachusetts
At age 15 (1835) he apprentices in a textile factory in Lowell, Massachusetts
The factory closed in 1837 so Howe moved to Cambridge Massachusetts along with his cousin Nathaniel P. Banks
While in Cambridge, Howe apprentices under Master Mechanic Ari Davis
