Career and Inventions
Shortly after the machine was invented sales were very poor and Howe was having bad luck trying to make money.
Howe sends his brother, Amasa Bemis, to England in hopes of making more sales.
Amasa sells the first sewing machine for £250 to factory owner, William Thomas
Howe moves his family to London, England where both he and his brother sell sewing machines in 1848.
Howe's career in England does not last very long and he returns home after business disagreements and his wife's poor health. Elizabeth died shortly after their return to America.
